Serve Others To Live Better

Have you ever wondered, why people get depressed in spite of having sound financial status?!

Have you ever wondered, why people find it difficult to be self-content in spite of having significant achievements?!

Have you ever wondered, why people find it difficult to find the real purpose of life?!

Have you ever wondered, why people fear taking any business risk in spite of having a great business idea?!

Have you ever wondered, why people lose interest in jobs after working for many long years?!

Have you ever wondered, why people act selfish and do not mind hurting others’ interests?!

You can come up with many such questions when you find someone not in harmony with his inner self and with others.

Before you prepare your mind to find out the answers to all these six questions, it is important to discuss inheritance.

Inheritance

Why is the child of a politician most likely to become a politician?!

Why is the child of a businessman most likely to become a businessman?!

Why is the child of a salaried person most likely to become a salaried person?!

The simple answer is that it is due to inheritance.

Parents try their best to build the same kind of belief system and values in their children, as they consider themselves to be better off with this belief system and values.

An honest politician tries his best to make his child believe that he should serve the people sincerely in order to gain recognition and advance in life.

An honest businessman tries his best to make his child believe that he should sell products and services that make the customers’ lives better in order to advance in life.

A salaried person tries his best to make his child believe that he should get a good job in order to get financial stability and advance in life.

Though I have only outlined how a politician, a businessman and a salaried person does his best in his capacity to influence his child in order to shape his future, if you dig deep into these outlines you would discover that these outlines are the culmination of years of efforts of a parent to make his child become the kind of person he expects him to become.

No doubt, when you start making efforts to become a kind of person who is not as per your parent’s belief system and values, you are labeled as a ‘Rebel’. The best example of this case is when a person, who is the child of a salaried person makes effort to run a business.

It is simply very difficult for a salaried person to believe that his child can do well in life by running a business, as it involves great financial risk.

The belief system of a salaried person is to look for an organization that can provide financial stability, so how can he just let his child take the financial risk associated with running a business.

Coming back to the six questions that we started this article with, don’t you now think that the parents of an individual, who is not in harmony with himself or with others, have contributed their part in making the individual become the kind of person that he has become?

If you think that how there can be people who do not care about others, then the answer to this question is that those people are the ones who have not been fortunate enough to find somebody in their life who could instill the belief in them that this world can be a very happy and peaceful place when you care for others.

If you get amazed that how some people build excellent relationships and are always so happy and positive, then the answer to this question is that those people are the ones who have been very fortunate to find someone in their life who instilled the belief in them that this world can be a very happy and peaceful place when you care for others.

So, you can now say that you have got the answer to one of the six questions that we started this article with, which was “Have you ever wondered, why people act selfish and do not mind hurting others’ interests?”

The people who always act selfish and do not mind hurting others are the people who witnessed their parents always acting selfish, back-biting others and always preaching the idea that this world is full of evil and if you do not fight others then you will lose everything.

And this idea gets so firm on the mind of these unfortunate people that even if someone in the journey of their life tries to guide them to the kindness and the goodness of this world, they find it extremely hard to believe that kindness and goodness do really exist in this world.

When you lose all your hope for the existence of kindness and goodness in this world, you start to see only the negative things in your life. You even start to ignore the gifts and the blessings that you are born with like being able to see this amazing world, having the hands and legs to do your work and move around, you start to take all these gifts and blessings for granted and ignore them.

Instead, you start to miss things that you do not have or possibly could have and you get convinced that this world is against you and you do not mean anything to anybody and it does not matter even if you do not exist in this world.

Such a kind of mental state leads you to depression and once you get into depression, having the urge to commit suicide is a very normal thing.

So, now you have got the answer to one golden question out of the six questions that we started this article with, which was “Have you ever wondered, why people get depressed in spite of having sound financial status?”

The simple solution to get out of depression is to focus on every good thing that you have.

If you can see this world then that is the biggest blessing of nature and your parents.

If you have hands and legs along with eyesight then you are one of the blessed ones in this world.

Many in this world have these gifts and blessings from nature and they all are the blessed ones.

People who do not acknowledge these gifts and get trapped in the societal race of focusing on things that they do not have or possibly could have, are the ones who are actually on their way to depression irrespective of their social status or financial status.

Even if you are jobless or homeless, you still make a great contribution to the society.

Because when you eat a piece of bread, you in fact provide the livelihood to the person who has produced that bread, you provide livelihood to the person who has sold that bread, you provide livelihood to the people who built that street where you bought the bread and your list of providing livelihood to numerous people cannot just end.

This is just one of the numerous examples to make you realize how important and significant your birth is, to run the human race and the human society on this planet.

And when you realize that your birth in this world is so important and significant to run the human race and the human society in this world, you will never take any step towards the evil ways of being selfish or hurting others because you would then also realize that like you everyone else is also very important and significant to run the human race and the human society in this world.

This article is not to blame anyone’s parents or teachers but to focus your attention on the point that you must challenge your existing belief system and values that you have carried since the beginning of your life that make you go out of harmony with your inner self or with others.

Firstly, people find it extremely difficult to accept the fact that it is something within them that they need to change in order to be in harmony with their inner self and with others. And secondly, they want others to change first to be able to be in harmony with them.

Let us now discuss some scenarios that will help us find the answers to the other questions of the six questions that we started this article with.

First Scenario

You are a fresher, looking for a job.

You explore all possible ways to learn how to prove yourself to be the ideal candidate during the job interview.

You take a look at yourself from all possible angles, analyze yourself as much as possible, ask others like friends, teachers, parents to rate you for the mock interviews and do not leave any stone unturned in your pursuit to improve yourself.

I bet that even with this tough all-round approach, you will still feel like missing something and will not feel hundred percent confident.

You can learn to do any job if you get proper training and above all, if you have the desire and passion to learn it.

No doubt, you need to work on your verbal and non-verbal communication skills but the most important aspect of the self-improvement process is working on your attitude.

It might not be possible for you to change your attitude overnight but it is absolutely possible to change your attitude and the first step in this process of changing attitude is to accept your lacunae and your mistakes.

Unless you accept your lacunae and mistakes, you cannot have a mindset to correct yourself and become your better self.

When you prepare for the interview, do not just focus on your skills like communication skills and technical skills, rather try to look at yourself as a very important part of the society who can serve society much better after getting employed with an organization.

When you join an organization, you actually join a team of individuals who serve the society collectively through their products and services.

And as a member of this team, you can do your best to make this team better, as it really does not matter whether you are a fresher or an experienced employee because as a fresher you bring a lot of positive energy through your curiosity to understand your role in the team and through your intense desire to learn and grow as a team member.

As the ultimate objective of any organization or team is to serve the society with its products and services, you need to make the necessary attitudinal changes in yourself to align yourself with the objectives of the team to be able to serve the society.

The earnings of the individuals in a team happen because of the service they provide to the society.

Therefore, when your team serves the society better, your earning will also get better.

When you are a fresher, new to working in a team, you tend to have a narrow view of your role in the team that may make you less responsible towards your duties but when you understand your purpose is to serve the society with the help of your team and start looking at your role from the point of view of serving the society, you will certainly find the purpose of your life and will become more responsible towards your duties.

You can now say with all confidence that this scenario has paved the way for you to get the answer to one of the six questions that we started this article with, which was “Have you ever wondered, why people find it difficult to find the real purpose of life?”

People tend to have a narrow view of their role in a team or in an organization or in a family and tend to confine their thinking within the boundaries of their team or organization or family, which makes them lose the sight of the important role that they play in serving the society through their team or organization or family and hence, even if they are working towards the purpose of their life, they do not realize it.

When people realize that they play a very crucial role in serving the society through their team or organization or family, they find the real purpose of their life.

This also applies to your spouse who is a homemaker and takes care of the home.

Many homemakers feel that their work consisting of their sincere efforts to run the home smoothly and keep the family happy is underrated.

When the homemakers realize that it is the homemaker who makes the home a happy place to live in, is actually playing a great role to serve the society through the other family members, come to know the purpose of their life.

Situation-II

You are an experienced professional, working for more than twenty years.

When you work for a long time for more than twenty years, it is very normal that the monotony of your life takes a toll on your mind and you start considering yourself as a robot with a fixed routine every day.

So, it is very important for you at this stage of life to evaluate your contribution to the society as an employee of an organization and as self-employed.

If you think, you can serve your clients better directly and hence, can serve the society better, then never hesitate to take that financial risk associated with business.

People hesitate to start a business because they are not sure of how exactly their conceived products and services are going to serve their customers.

So, now you have got the answer to one of the six questions that we started this article with, which was “Have you ever wondered, why people fear taking any business risk in spite of having a great business idea?”

It might also happen in this scenario that you are not able to come up with some business idea that you get really sure of how it can help you serve your customers better than your current job, then in this case it is possible that you get trapped at the crossroads.

On one hand, you do not have any attractive business idea and on the other hand, the monotony of your current job takes a toll on your mind and makes you feel like a robot.

In such a case, it is important for you to re-look at your current role and analyze in detail what you can do in order to expand the confinements of your role, so that being within the legal boundaries of your organization, you make efforts to elevate your role to serve the society better and more.

For example, you work as a senior purchase manager for an organization.

In this role, you can think of ways how you can get more quality vendors for your organization and in turn, encourage, engage and give business opportunities to more entrepreneurs.

When you encourage, engage and give business opportunity to someone, you in fact do good to everyone who is associated with that person like his family members, friends, relatives and so on. Even the foes of the person get inspired by his success and get positively influenced.

So, when you realize that you can use your role to serve the society more, you can easily ward off the monotony of your job because of long working years.

You have now got the answer to one more question of the six questions that we started this article with, which was “Have you ever wondered, why people lose interest in jobs after working for many long years?”

When people work for many years in a routine manner every day, they tend to feel like robots and lose interest in their job.

Unless you realize that your role plays an important role and is a significant link to serving people in the society, you will feel like working like a robot.

It is all in your mind how you look at yourself and your professional role in order to serve the other humans in the society.

The day you realize that your existence is a significant link to running the human race and the human society on this planet, you start to look at yourself and your professional role as the important means to serve the other humans.

When you look at yourself and your professional role as the important means to serve the human race and the human society, you will do your best to come up with new ideas to serve the people better.

And as long as you keep coming up with new ideas to serve people better, you will never get bored with your work or never feel like working like a robot that is programmed to work in a routine manner.

Let us stay with this same example of senior purchase manager who has been working for more than twenty years.

When you work for more than twenty years, it is obvious that you had significant achievements during this course of time, else why an organization would hire you for so long!

In spite of having significant achievements, you can never be self-content if you keep comparing yourself with others who have got more materialistic possession than you.

Even if you surpass a few in acquiring the materialistic possessions like a house, car, bank balance, etc., you will still find many having all these more than you.

So, how long you can keep comparing yourself with others and make yourself discontent with your achievements and lose inner peace.

Therefore, it is not at all a wise idea to compare your achievement with that of others.

People who keep comparing their achievements, their professional life, their personal life with those of others can never get self-content in spite of having significant achievements and in turn lose inner peace because of jealousy.

So, we have now got the answer to one more golden question of the six questions that we started this article with, which was “Have you ever wondered, why people find it difficult to be self-content in spite of having significant achievements?”

In order to grow yourself personally and professionally, you, of course, need some kind of comparison but it can certainly not be the comparison of your achievements with those of others.

Going by the ideology that we discussed earlier in this article that you and every other human being is a very important and significant link to running the human race and the human society on this planet, the wise way to grow your personal and professional achievements along with self-contentment and inner peace is to keep comparing your contribution to the people of the society every year with the previous years.

When you strive to give your best to increase your contribution to the society every year, you are bound to grow your personal and professional achievements every year along with self-contentment and inner peace.

For example, as a senior purchase manager, when you give business opportunities to more vendors every year, you help more entrepreneurs, their families and everyone associated with them and you also encourage entrepreneurship in the society.

When you serve the people of the society in such a magnificent way, you will automatically get all the respect and good wishes of the people, and that will eventually help you achieve more personally and professionally.

You have now got the answers to all the six questions that we started this article with.

All these six questions were related to people who are not in harmony with their inner self and not with others. And we have found in the answer to each of these questions that when you focus your attention on serving the people, you make the wisest decision to be in harmony with your inner self and with others.

So, you can now make a generalized statement that in order to be in harmony with your inner self and with others, focus on serving the people.

In short, you can say “Serve Others to Live Better”.
