Let Your Vision Be Your Guide

Imagine that you are trapped inside a tunnel.

It is so dark inside the tunnel that you cannot even see your own hands and legs.

But you see some light at the end of the tunnel, which is quite far, atleast few hundreds of metres.

If you want to cross the tunnel, you have to follow the source of light that you see at the end of the tunnel.

But you have to be careful, as there might be potholes inside the tunnel which may make you stumble.

You need to be very careful, as it is very dark inside the tunnel. You cannot run, you need to take only one step at a time.

The far source of light at the end of the tunnel is your guide. It gives you the hope that you can cross this tunnel and get out of this tough and uncomfortable time.

If you decide that it should be your goal to reach this far source of light at the end of the tunnel, then you assure yourself of an exit from the tunnel, which could take substantial amount of time and efforts, as this source of light is quite far.

You also have a second option to get out of the tunnel.

In the second option, you decide to ignore the far source of light at the end of the tunnel because you think that reaching this far source of light will take a lot of time and efforts from your side.  Instead, you decide to find your way out of the tunnel by checking the walls of the tunnel for any cracks in order to break out of the tunnel and avoid the huge investment of time and efforts that is required to reach the far source of light at the end of the tunnel.

In the second option, you are not sure that where you would be able to find a crack on the wall of the tunnel but you may still opt for the second option because you do not wish to put in so much of time and efforts to reach the far source of light at the end of the tunnel.

The second option can give you three results.

You might be lucky and find a crack on the wall, which takes less time and efforts than that required to reach the far source of light at the end of the tunnel.

The second result could be that you spend substantial amount of time and efforts to find a crack on the wall but the amount of time and efforts that you put in this case is much more than that required to reach the far source of light at the end of the tunnel.

And the third result could be that you put in enormous amounts of time and effort to find a crack on the tunnel’s wall but still do not find it and then decide to follow the source of light at the end of the tunnel in order to exit from the tunnel.

So, which option you would choose?

First option, which is to follow the far source of light at the end of the tunnel or the second option, which is to look for a crack on the walls of the tunnel.

Every person in this world is trapped inside a dark tunnel like the one that we have discussed so far in this article.

The dark tunnel is the life that you are in.

You do not know what your life has in store for you.

That’s why, you need to live in the present and make the best out of it.

To keep moving forward in life, you have exactly the same kind of two options that we discussed in case of crossing the dark tunnel.

You either have a vision for your life, which is like the far source of light at the end of the tunnel or you go for the second option, which is to depend on your luck to get the best opportunity in life, which is like finding a crack on the dark tunnel’s walls.

When you have a vision for your life, you start setting goals to achieve the vision for your life.

When you achieve the goals, you achieve the desired results that move you towards the vision for your life.

In every aspect of life, you need a vision to guide you.

Whether it is your personal life or professional life, you need to have a vision.

Let us go back to our dark tunnel example.

Let us consider that you opted for the first option to cross the dark tunnel, that is, you decided to follow the source of light to exit the tunnel.

After exiting the tunnel, you find yourself in another similar dark tunnel.

Even in this case, you have the same two options to exit the tunnel. That is, either to follow the source of light or to look for a crack on the walls of the tunnel in order to exit it.

Doesn’t life behave in the same way?

When you are a student, you either have a vision for your educational career or depend on your luck.

When you start earning your livelihood, you either have a vision for your future or depend on your luck.

When you get married, you either have a vision for your married life or depend on your luck.

So, every phase of your life is like getting trapped inside a dark tunnel with two options to exit. And those two options are either you have a vision for that particular phase of life, which is like following the source of light at the end of the tunnel or you depend on your luck for a great opportunity, which is like looking for a crack on the walls of the tunnel.

Let us discuss some scenarios and find out that how having a vision can help you navigate the tough circumstances in every scenario.

Scenario-I

Suppose you are a homemaker.

It doesn’t matter whether you are the wife or the husband because the traditional belief has now changed all over the world that the wife is the homemaker, as more and more ladies have started earning decently to take care of the financial needs of their families.

Suppose that you have a school-going child in this case.

As a homemaker, it is your responsibility to ensure that all the household chores like preparing food to cleaning clothes are completed on time.

You see, how important it is to finish the household chore like preparing food. If the food is not prepared on time then the other members of your family like your kid and your spouse will have to go hungry, and this can affect their studies and work respectively.

Preparing food is only one of the activities and responsibilities of a Homemaker. Try to analyse how important are the activities of a Homemaker, as they have direct effect on the mental and physical well-being of the other family members. Imagine how you would feel, if your house is not cleaned for days!

Every family in this world has its own challenges. But as a Homemaker, if you have a vision for your family, then it will guide you to sail through the tough times.

As a Homemaker, if your vision for your family is that your family needs to be happy in any situation, then your vision for your family will guide you to uplift the morale of the other family members, whenever they are down.

And as a Homemaker when you are down, your vision for your family will guide you to uplift your morale by yourself because a visionary person does not need anyone’s shoulders to lean on.

A visionary person is an inspiration for self and others.

I would like to share the story of one of my friends called Rashmi (Name Changed) who lost her mother when she was only five and her younger sister was only two.

Her parents had a love marriage.

After the early demise of Rashmi’s mother, her father decided not to get married again and took up the role of the homemaker alongside his role of taking care of the financial needs of the family.

His earnings were not very high but he ensured that his daughters got all the comfort and the happiness.

20 years have passed since the time Rashmi lost her mother, her father’s vision that they remained a happy family at any cost, guided him to do his best for himself and for his daughters.

Rashmi is now a successful entrepreneur and her younger sister is a happy homemaker.

Both Rashmi and her younger sister ensure that their father’s vision to remain a happy family at any cost, guides them as well.

Truly, visionary people have a positive influence that is passed on from one generation to another.

Scenario-II

Suppose you are a student.

Your vision in your life is to become a ‘Scientist’.

Your friends make fun of your vision in order to pull your legs and distract you, but that cannot impact you because you have a vision.

You are very clear about what you want to become, so nothing can stop you because whenever you are down and whenever you get distracted by your circumstances, your vision will guide you to sail through the challenging times to help you achieve the goals of your life that are in line with your vision.

There are thousands of examples of people who fought their childhood challenges successfully and touched the sky.

One such example is of Mohammed Siraj.

Mohammed Siraj

His father was an Auto-rickshaw driver, who did not have the affluence to let his son try his luck with sports.

But it was Siraj’s vision during his childhood days to represent India in the international cricket and he achieved it in the year 2020 in spite of all challenges

There are thousands of examples like Siraj, who will simply inspire you.

Scenario-III

Suppose you are a working professional and currently work as an executive.

You have a vision that when you change your job the next time, you would do so to get a position of ‘Team Leader’, who manages a team of executives.

So, even if you get an offer for an executive position with some other company which would pay double or triple the salary that you currently get from your existing employer, you would still turn down that offer because your vision will guide you to do so.

People, who lead large teams successfully before the age of 35, are the people who stuck to their vision and didn’t fall prey to the predatory remunerations.

You can find such people around you, you just need to look for them. Such people might be working in your own organization. Look for them and get inspired by them to achieve your own vision.

Scenario-IV

Suppose you are a ‘Team Leader’ like the Chief Executive Officer of a company or an Entrepreneur.

As the top most leader of your company, your vision is to make your company, the most trusted brand in its industry.

So, you would never compromise with the quality of your products, even if it makes you sell them at a loss.

Every company starts its journey with a loss because when you start a business, first you need to invest without getting any returns.

So, start-up companies which focus only on profits and neglect customer’s trust are bound to fail.

Every organization which has withstood the test of the time and has been in business for decades, surely has an inspirational story of entrepreneurship.

Your vision for your life will not only help you to sail through the tough times of your life but it will also inspire many others around you to face the tough times boldly and successfully.
